I was Class of ’90. He was my AP Physics teacher. Hallmarks of his tutelage and verbal weaponry:
1. First day during roll call, he could not pronounce my last name and asked me to pronounce it. Then he went on a 45-second treatise on what “Boolean Algebra” was. (Buell vs. Boole)
2. Whenever he would mention Boolean Algebra when describing the underlying mathematics of physical principles, he would always punctuate that statement with, “No, not you Boole” and give me this sideways glance.
3. One day after no one could figure out a test question of relativity and gravity, he stated I was the only one that got it right. He then demanded I get up in from of the class and explain my answer. After class, he stated, “Good job”.
4. He did not hold in high regard the future valedictorian and lauded the ones who kept to themselves and did their work.

Joe: I was curious myself as to what happened to him. I found out: https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/sandiegouniontribune/obituary.aspx?n=john-charles-roth&pid=1497929. May God rest his soul. Great, underappreciated teacher. If you could send me a copy of your caricature of him, I would appreciate it.
