I did not know.

My friend Susan posted to inaturalist soon after. The identification that folks agreed to was: Specklefin Midshipman (Porichthys myriaster) a fish that is rather unusual to find in the San Diego area. It was very satisfying to get an ID for this fish.

I came to the Jetty at daybreak to look for the fin I lost. Hoping to find it. The longest longshot. But I did find the makings for a great recipe: fish, papaya, onion banana, pineapple. Bon appétit! #mysteryrecipe
