Detail: “Beach Toys” a risograph print currently hanging at @thebrownbuilding in the “POOR MATERIALS” show curated by @sketchbook.definition and open Saturday and Sunday evening this weekend. I’m so proud. As we were driving home from the show and after-show tacos I got a Venmo notification that for the first time ever a stranger paid money in exchange for art I made. 80% of that sale will go back to The Brown Building which is a wellness and community center run by and for BIPOC trans folks. Feeling: gratitude and joy.

I guess it’s been a bit (*cough* 2020) since I wrote a roundup post — weekly, monthly, or otherwise. There were some bright spots this month, so I thought I would take the chance to write about it.

Joe and I had been talking about getting together to do something, so when I saw Moulin Rouge the musical was coming to SoCal, I asked if he would like to join. He and his partner Kelly joined me and we had a great evening. The musical was fantastic and it was nice to socialize for a change, especially with people who take COVID precautions seriously.

Then Joe invited me to an art show where he had a piece on display. I met a couple of his friends there and we hit it off talking about a mixture of tech, politics, and music. Initially I had planned to come home for a quiet evening after the art show, but they convinced me to join them at ¡Salud! Tacos for some really good tacos and more good conversation.

For Thanksgiving, I visited Sheryl and Ricky in Palm Desert. It was good to catch up with them and eat a lot of good food. We explored Palm Springs a bit and went to The Best Bookstore in Palm Springs. Apparently we missed John Barrowman visiting there within days?! We also took the tram up to Mt. San Jacinto State Park (elevation 8,516 feet) for some gorgeous views and some patchy snow. It was quite a contrast with the desert below. I am sure I’ll be sharing some photos in the coming weeks.
