Turban Shell Yesterday!
Yesterday I found another wavy turban shell at PB. When I got home I immediately put it in 1/3rd strength bleach solution. Top left, how it looked when I put it in the back of my car, and the next 3 are after 18 hours of a bleach solution. I will soak it more with...

Scripps August 26
Kelly and I went to La Jolla Shores yesterday. We ended up at Scripps. Weirdly: despite San Diego Municipal Code 63.20.7 there were TWO large trucks on the beach: one delivery, one tow. There were a dozen pelicans floating near the pier, they avoided the waves by flying a bit then went right back to hanging...

Beach Law!
I attended a Beach Law zoom webinar put on by the San Diego Law Library this afternoon. I learned things. Lifeguard jurisdiction goes out way farther than I realized. 3 miles! Alcohol got banned at the beach in 2008. But apparently in the years after that there were “Floatopia” get togethers – people drinking out...

Everybody’s going surfing
Water temperature is 62°F (16.7°C). A very nearly perfect break for me. Next: back to life, back to reality. Also: catch a wave and you’re sitting on top of the world. Related: Charlie don’t surf. However: I bodysurf at the beaches and swim at the cove. This ocean, this coast, this birthright of the citizens...

Swimming in Malibu
Water temperatures this weekend are 59 degrees Fahrenheit, according to watchthewater.org. I really wish that site also covered Ventura County. I have to make due with the Nicholas Canyon numbers. I wanted to go to Malibu to lap swim, actually, so I headed out at 10:30am or so. When I got there, however, the pool...

Beach Time, Not Quite
It was warm yesterday. I went to the beach late in the day but the water is 56 degrees F. The lifeguard says it doesn’t get into the 60s until June. I now know 56 is too cold for me now, my calves were instantly numb, and not in a good way. Hypothermia is not...

Rock, Zevon, Swimming, Moving
Some Zevon this morning, from a live recording on the Internet Archive that’s pretty good, which I found via UBM: I can saw a woman in two But you won’t want to look in the box when I’m through I can make love disappear For my next trick I’ll need a volunteer And more Zevon:...
