My very own name record! From sometime in the 1970s on “My Name Records.”
The story goes that my father had faith in me that I could run a little turntable even though I was like 3 or 4 years old. I’ve been trusted with technology ever since. My former roommate Erin recorded it to mp3 and I encoded it for the web in February 2003.
You can listen to the audio here: “Joseph, Joseph”

Joe, you were only 2 years old when you started reading and playing the phonograph!!!! we lived in student housing in Riverside 😉 Love, M0m
I asked because I kept going around singing “Joseph, Joseph” and realized that it was from THAT RECORD.
Now I’ll have even MORE of it stuck in my head!

I’ve been trying to track this record down, off and on for a long time. Thanks for putting a recording on your site.
There were other songs about birthdays and stuff weren’t there?
Anyway just wanted to send you a thumbs up… that broughtback some memories… Thanks again.
Hi Jimi —
You’re welcome!
I think there must have been many different names that were done by that company and then branded with Captain Kangaroo’s name. Pity there’s not more of them online. Fun stuff.
My family played these records at every birthday party and we all sang along, we still do. Wish I could find them for my own children. Any idea where to get them? II know all of the lyrics by heart. Remember “r-e-d- spells. red, b-e-d spells bed, r-e-d and b-e-d means there’s a little red bed” 🙂
Really, if anyone knows where to get these, I’d really like to know.
I wish I knew Nancy, but I really don’t.
Oh my gosh, Nancy — I still have my old record, and we have the same name, so I’d be happy to burn it to mp3 for you. It’s not the same as for your own kids’ names, but they’d at least be able to hear the songs with your name in it. Joseph, thank you SO much for posting your name song; I was trying to teach it to a friend for her little girl, and this made it so much easier for me to send it to her! -Nancy
Thanks! Yes, if it’s the same company I’d be happy to take a recording and post it!
Does anyone have an “Erin” birthday record?
Sorry Deb, I’ve never seen more examples of these than my own.
I was just researching to see what to sell my “If Your name is AMY” record and found this. Didn’t think about getting in recorded on to an MP3!
There’s currently a “Tony” on ebay for sale.
wow! I searched high and low for this song! My brother “joseph” is turning 40 and I want to have a little fun and play it at his party. I can still recite all the lyrics on the record to all the songs….. I had one as well “Deborah”.
Is there a way I can download this song?
Debbie, just click, play, then save.
I have a Happy Birthday Laura
Cool Tom!
I have a “Karen Karen” record. I have every song memorized. Thank you for bringing a smile to my face in posting this.
Thank you Karen! It’s fun hearing about all these different records!
I would love to get the music and words onto a CD for my sister in law. Her record broke and it would be a wonderful surprise for her. Would I be able to purchase a cd of the music or download it?
Thank you
Judith Talbert
Judith, I don’t personally.
But what name are you looking for?
The name I am looking for is Karen.
I’m desperately trying to find the Joe birthday song. Do you have the record? Is there anyway that you could send me a recording of it please? It is my brother in-laws 50th birthday and his name is Joe! They used to play this all the time for him but we have lost the record 😢
I’m so sorry but I don’t have a copy of it and don’t have access to the record right now!
Hi! I’m looking for a copy of the “Joseph/Joe” birthday album for a 50th birthday party. If anyone had any leads on an mp3 or copy I’d be very grateful!
Thanks!
