Zine Camp!

I’ve been a fan and Patreon patron of Miquela Davis since 2021. I got more into reading zines during the pandemic. Not so much making zines as of yet. But it feels like something I’ll do.

Miquela is a comics artist, writer, and educator and dog-owner and makes charming zines. I like the way she introduces herself on her website:

Miquela Davis is an artist, teacher, illustrator, writer, reader, storyteller, podcaster, curator, photographer, music enthusiast/concert goer, education coordinator, art camp director, zinester and zine fest organizer

In the last month she’s been writing about her hospitalization and it’s absolutely terrific and poignant stuff. I’m decades past working in the hospital and oxygen administration and chest tubes and all that but it put me into that mindset again and how much is going on for patients when they get sick. How much it disrupts their lives.

Anyway, I’ll quote her latest project, “Zine Camp” here, you ought to check it out.

Attention Campers!

Zine Camp will be running through the entire month of August, virtually, for anyone to join in!

Follow along with prompts throughout the month, no pressure at all, jump in and join whenever you want! Share your zines with the #zinecamp2024. I’ll be posting the prompt list soon 🥰

If you want to get the FULL camp experience, you can join the Mail Club on my Patre0n (peep my bio) for just the month of August and get a pennant, badge, postcard, stickers, as well as all of the zines that I make at camp. You will also get exclusive access to videos and a special Zoom end of camp “campfire” where we will share the zines we made during the month! The campfire will take place on August 31st.
