It’s me, with a kind of Terminator heads-up display of analysis of my mouth as I am singing. Singing karaoke. As in “From pubs and clubs, to the great Asian pastime of karaoke!”*
What I wrote down in my notebook was:
Matches with people you might know
Watches your mouth somehow
It’s a kind of game. And you play it with people you know. And it judges… what? The quality of the singing? I don’t think so. The quality of the lip-sync? Is that what it is? The believability of the lip-sync? I don’t know. I know I always hated it when bands I liked played live and mimed along with performance. There are some famous examples of bands subverting that in talk show performances and music videos. It was about music, not lip-reading.
It was a vivid enough image in my head that a week later I feel the need to document it.
