Introducing myself in the CSS Battle Community

Hi folks – I’m Joe Crawford. ArtLung.

Level of experience HTML/CSS: High level. I’ve been making web pages for 30 years now and remember the bad days before CSS existed. I remember a co-worker using CSS to make a drop shadow in Internet Explorer. He had to make a second element with the text, but he used margins to move the text on top of each other and it was like magic. It was terrible, but it was better than text in images!

Programming languages you know of: Probably all of them. When solving a problem on the backend I look to PHP and Python first. And frontend, well, HTML and CSS and JavaScript. I read somewhere that any programmer should try to learn one new language every year. Not necessarily to be productive in it, but to try it on.

Your country / Timezone: USA / San Diego / California / Pacific Standard Time

Languages you speak: English. If pressed a little Spanish but not much. In High School I was asked to leave my German class because I was not applying myself.

Things you like / dislike: I’m often going to the beach. I am often working on my website.

How did you find out about CSSBattle? I can’t remember! But it came along right when I was getting sick of grinding on Clash of Clans. CoC is fun, but CSS Battle is awesome. A few months ago I started making videos of me doing the Daily Targets and putting them on YouTube. I also shared some plugins on GitHub. I’ve done videos for 70% of all the Daily Targets since June 28, 2023 so far. I remain amazed at the top players solutions! I try to do the targets efficiently and get to 100% quickly (and not the dreaded 99.9%). I try to learn something new with each one. I’m very happy I found CSS Battle and hope it keeps going a long time!
