I’m late to this, dude. But this dictum is worth internalizing:
Start by assuming good intent on the part of others; automatically beginning from a position of “everyone’s out to get me” is never productive and is a sad way to live life. But learn to recognize when others are taking advantage of you and shut that shit down tout de suite.
Which I find closely linked to:
People are capable of doing some truly horrific shit but also of doing some extraordinarily thoughtful and beautiful things. Don’t let the former blind you to the latter.
